We all know the old jokes about women drivers and there are plenty of them, but is there any difference when it comes to taking out car insurance if you are a woman? Are women treated any differently simply because they are a female driver?

Well, one thing for sure is that over the last few years there have been many companies emerging specifically aimed at attracting lady drivers. There are many adverts now with catchy tunes and catch phrases that stick in the mind and all imply that if you purchase your insurance from a company aimed specifically for women then women do actually get cheaper car insurance.
The concept behind this appears to be that women are indeed safer drivers than men. Statistics prove this, however many jokes say the opposite! It has also been noted that women who have claimed on their insurance have claimed at less cost to the insurers than men have. Women also tend to go for smaller cars with lower engine sizes rather than a flashy sports car with higher specs which of course goes a long way to insurance costs being higher.
However, when buying insurance specifically aimed at women, a woman will be offered the same coverage, for example third party or fully comprehensive, but along with they are also offered extras. For example, most policies aimed at women have breakdown cover included - or it is available for a very small added extra cost - this of course is for the safety of all those women that travel alone.
So in short, if you are a woman and need to take out motor insurance, then it is worthwhile checking out those sites and insurers which are specifically aimed at women drivers along with the “normal” insurers in order to get the best deal possible. It is worth noting that most insurers will look favourably on you simply because you are a woman and, as such, have been deemed a safer driver despite the jokes!
